As I have mentioned before, Ace of Base led me to Göteborg, Sweden. It’s hard to believe that I have been a fan of theirs for over 20 year! I drove my parents crazy constantly playing their albums over and over when I lived at home. Yes, I am an Acer; a loyal Ace of Base fan. Some of you may be thinking, “OMG, they were so cheesy! I can’t believe they still have fans after all these years!” Well my friends, this band has been through good times and bad with me. Ace of Base entered my life during a time of my life that I needed some happiness. They helped me escape suicidal thoughts after I attempted to kill myself at age 14. The song ‘Beautiful Life’ was released here in the States not too long after I had started treatment for depression. Even to this day when I hear it, I can’t help but smile. Jonas Berggren once joined the Acer fans in the chat room on the band’s official website back in 1998 or 1999. It was there I got to tell him personally that the song saved my life. I don’t know if he would remember that, but I always will.
AOB has reached millions of people around the world with their infectious melodic hooks and positive lyrics. You would be surprised to learn how many of we Acers still exist today. Over the years there have been changes with the band. Linn Berggren stepped out of the spotlight and let her sister, Jenny, take the lead. She eventually bowed out of the band and has moved on in her personal life. For a period of time, the band was a trio. They made appearances at ‘Night of the Proms’ in 2005 and performed at different venues around Europe and Asia in 2007 to 2009. Jonas and Ulf still produce music even though the band is on hiatus right now. Jenny has been focusing on her own music endeavor as well as her personal life.
Music legends such as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac, Elvis Presley, ABBA, Michael Jackson, et cetera have had loyal fans for many years. I will always be a loyal fan of Ace of Base.
Once an Acer, always an Acer!!
